Subject:LA Women vs. NY Women.
Time:12:27 am

--

Saturday night I had a discussion with two male friends who've been single for several months now.

"Why is it so hard, " they asked, "to find a woman who's both beautiful AND intelligent?"

And then they said something I'd been hearing from guys for years.

"But there seems to be more of them in New York than in LA."

The commonly held belief is that while LA women may be better-looking overall than their pale, chain-smoking New York counterparts, they're also - to put it harshly - dumber and more shallow. I've heard stereotypes for San Fran women as well, and I'm certain there are plenty for the ladies of other cities; but for the sake of this entry, I'm limiting it to just the two towns that matter.

Being born and raised in Los Angeles, I've tried to do my best to come to the defense of our females. First of all, I explained, nowadays you have so many people moving from city-to-city, that you can't simply label a woman as an "LA woman" or a "New York woman." Some of the more interesting females I've talked to in New York were from outside the city, including LA. And some of the hottest females I've met in LA were surprisingly not from there.

But my friends have argued that while that may be the case, New York tends to draw more career-oriented, more educated people, while LA attracts scantily clad actress-wannabes who like to party.

I responded that while it's good that they're focused on something, people who spend all their time talking about work and where they got their various degrees are boring motherfuckers.

They say New York women are more assertive, while LA women are more likely to play games. I say "assertive" is just another word for slutty. They say Pamela Anderson is the typical LA woman, and I say the typical New York woman is Woody Allen.

In all seriousness, though, I really can't see the difference. LA and NYC both have lots of women who talk and spend a lot on clothes; they both have gold diggers; and they both are insane. But many guys insist there is definitely a difference, like my two friends who truly believe they're more likely to find wife material in the Big Apple.

We've been going back and forth on this argument for years without any real resolution, so hopefully you weren't expecting one in this entry. I just wanted an excuse to post a catfighting pic.

You know the funny thing is that the hotel where most of the movie takes place is offering the Lost In Translation Package.

Starting at just JPY 380,000 (about $3360), you too can sit in the hotel bar by yourself, accompanied only by a tumbler of Suntory whiskey. This is followed by a whole afternoon of sitting in your hotel room in your underwear, staring at buildings; and a day trip to a local temple, where you can weep the warm, salty tears of emotional isolation.

I’m wondering if it includes getting a visit from the “Lip my stocking!” lady. If so, sign me up.

There really was no point in posting this, was there? Just another way of delaying packing.

And a big thanks to everyone for the helpful trip tips.
